What does this fault code mean?
With the engine running, the engine control module has noticed that the desired throttle position (the set value) and the actual throttle position (the measured value) do not match. The fault may be mechanical, but it can also come from poor contact or a wiring fault.
Possible causes
- The throttle sticks or is blocked, for example by oil film or dust
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the control module and the throttle unit
- An open circuit, or a short to ground or supply voltage, in the wiring to the throttle motor
- The wires to the throttle motor have shorted to each other
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the control module first. Codes for the throttle unit, the position sensor and the control module must be dealt with first
- 2Check that the throttle is not sticking or blocked, and clean the throttle unit if needed
- 3Check the connectors at the throttle unit and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Look for breaks and chafing in the wiring to the throttle motor, and use a multimeter to check that it is not shorted to ground, supply voltage or other wires
- 5If the code comes back, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the throttle unit and the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- Uneven idle
What the fault can affect1
- The throttle motor receives no supply, and the throttle is turned to its spring-loaded position
