What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the accelerator pedal position sensor. The code is set when the module finds that the PWM (pulse-width modulated) signal from the pedal sensor has too low a frequency. The fault may lie in the signal or supply wire, or in the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- An open circuit in the signal wire
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- The supply wire is short-circuited to ground
- The supply wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2With the ignition off, check that the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Look for breaks and chafing in the signal and supply wires to the pedal sensor, and use a multimeter to check that they have no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the accelerator pedal position in live data and check that it follows the pedal as it is pressed and released
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pedal sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice4
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
- The engine hesitates or surges, and it is unclear when
- The engine hesitates or jerks during acceleration
- The engine hesitates or jerks during deceleration
