What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module, which monitors the accelerator pedal sensor, sets the code when it finds that the PWM signal from the sensor has too high a frequency. The cause may be an open circuit or a short in the signal or supply wire, or a damaged pedal sensor.
Possible causes
- An open circuit in the signal wire
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- The supply wire is short-circuited to ground
- The supply wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check that the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Look for a break in the signal wire, and use a multimeter to confirm it has no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check whether the pedal position in live data rises and falls smoothly as the pedal is pressed and released
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pedal sensor and its supply wire
Symptoms you may notice4
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
- The engine hesitates or surges, and it is unclear when
- The engine hesitates or jerks during acceleration
- The engine hesitates or jerks during deceleration
