What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named throttle and pedal position sensor, it concerns the accelerator pedal sensor. The engine control module has registered an incorrect frequency on the PWM signal from the sensor, and it compares that PWM signal with the analogue signal that arrives over CAN.
Possible causes
- Loose connections or contact resistance in the connections on the PWM signal wire
- Interference on the PWM signal wire
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2With the ignition off, go through the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module, and look for loose connections and oxidation
- 3Check that the ground wire to the pedal sensor has no break
- 4With the ignition on, use a multimeter to check that the supply voltage to the sensor is normal battery voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the pedal position in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal slowly, and check that the values follow the pedal
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pedal sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice3
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
- A message appears in the information display
- The accelerator pedal is ignored during braking
What the fault can affect3
- The control module uses the analogue signal sent over CAN
- The pedal position that corresponds to the released pedal is used when the brake pedal is pressed at the same time
- Driveability suffers when the fault remains for an extended time
