What does this fault code mean?

The control module compares the readings from two accelerator pedal sensors. The code is set when the signal from the accelerator pedal sensor is missing, incorrect or too low. It can also be set wrongly after a module in the car has been reprogrammed.

    Possible causes

    • Communication fault on the CAN bus
    • Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
    • Poor contact, oxidation or a loose plug in the connector
    • The signal wire is short-circuited to ground

    What you can do

    1. 1Start by checking the central electronic module (CEM) and the other control modules involved for stored codes, and fix those first
    2. 2Clear this code only after the codes in the other control modules have been fixed and cleared
    3. 3If a control module in the vehicle has recently been reprogrammed, the code may have been set incorrectly. In that case you can disregard it
    4. 4Check that the fuses are intact
    5. 5Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
    6. 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment trace the CAN communication and the pedal sensor

    Symptoms you may notice3

    • Poor response from the accelerator pedal
    • A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
    • The engine lacks power and performs poorly

    What the fault can affect1

    • Engine torque may be limited

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
