What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the accelerator pedal position sensor, and the code is set when the signal from the analogue position sensor shows an incorrect pedal position. The fault may lie in the signal wire, in the supply wire, which is either broken or shorted, or in the pedal sensor itself.
Possible causes
- An open circuit in the signal wire
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- The sensor's supply feed is short-circuited to ground
- The sensor's supply feed is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the pedal position in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal slowly, and check that the values change smoothly and match each other
- 3Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Look for breaks and chafing in the supply and ground wires to the sensor, and use a multimeter to confirm the supply is normal battery voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pedal sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice3
- A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
- The engine lacks power and performs poorly
- The engine hesitates or surges, and it is unclear when
