What does this fault code mean?

The fault is intermittent, meaning it comes and goes, so it may not be present right now. The engine control module has registered that the PWM signal from the accelerator pedal sensor is incorrect. The code is only set if one of the codes ECM-P022000, ECM-P022200 or ECM-P022300 has been detected, and here the fault has not lasted long enough for that. The cause may be poor contact in the connectors or a damaged pedal position sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
    • Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact
    2. 2If the fault is intermittent it can be hard to find when reading the code. Read the code with the ignition on and note whether it is still there
    3. 3With the ignition off, look at the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module. Loose connections are a common cause of intermittent faults
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the pedal position in live data while moving the pedal, and see whether the value jumps
    5. 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pedal sensor and the connectors

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • A text message and a warning symbol appear in the display
    • The engine lacks power and performs poorly

    What the fault can affect1

    • Engine torque may be limited

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
