What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) has been alerted by the central electronic module (CEM) saying that the accelerator pedal signal is invalid. The fault may lie in the accelerator pedal signal or in the CAN communication between CEM and ECM. This is a follow-on code: the root fault is in CEM, and this code can only be erased once the fault there has been fixed.

    Possible causes

    • Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
    • Fault in the CAN communication between CEM and the engine control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since the root fault is there
    2. 2Troubleshoot and fix the CEM faults as needed, starting with the fuses and connectors that belong to it
    3. 3Erase the code in the engine control module only after the CEM faults are gone, then road test the car to check that it does not return
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the accelerator pedal position in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal, and check that the value follows the movement smoothly

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Poor response from the accelerator pedal
    • Cruise control does not work at all

    What the fault can affect1

    • The accelerator pedal stops responding completely when the brake pedal is pressed

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
