What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the pedal through two sensors. This code is set when the PWM signal from the accelerator pedal sensor has a frequency that is too high, meaning the pulses come too close together for the ECM to read the pedal position correctly. The fault may lie in the signal wire, the supply or the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Power supply cable short-circuited to ground
- Power supply cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are given in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Make a test drive and note whether hesitation, surging or jerky running occurs, and whether it happens right now
- 3With a diagnostic tool, follow the pedal value in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal slowly, and see that it tracks the movement
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the accelerator pedal sensor is not open and has no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 5Check the connectors at the accelerator pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 6Replace the accelerator pedal sensor only if the fault remains after these checks
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily
- The symptoms can appear all the time or only now and then
