What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives the analogue accelerator pedal signal via the central electronic module (CEM) on the CAN network, and compares it with the PWM signal that runs directly to the ECM. The code is set when the analogue signal is too low. Because the signal passes through CEM, that module should be checked first.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Fault on the CAN link between ECM and CEM
- The analogue signal is missing or incorrect
- Terminals with high resistance, oxidation or a loose fit
- Open circuit or short to ground in the signal cable
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since CEM registers the pedal signal and passes it on
- 2Fix any fault codes for the pedal sensor in CEM first, then erase the code in the engine control module
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and CEM for loose contacts, contact resistance and oxidation, and see that the wires have no open circuit
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire and the ground wire to the pedal sensor have no open circuit
- 6With a diagnostic tool, read the pedal value in live data while the pedal is pressed and released; the value should follow the pedal movement
Symptoms you may notice4
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- The car has poor performance and lacks power
- Poor performance and lack of power especially when pulling away from rest
- The accelerator pedal is ignored when braking
What the fault can affect3
- Engine torque may be limited
- The control module treats the pedal as released when the brake pedal is pressed at the same time
- Vehicle performance is limited if the fault persists for a long period
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
