What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks that the two pedal signals follow each other as the pedal moves. The code is set when the PWM signal from the accelerator pedal sensor is too high. The fault may lie in the signal wire, the supply or the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Power supply cable short-circuited to ground
- Power supply cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Road test the car and see whether hesitation, surging or jerky running occurs, and whether it happens right now
- 3With a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the pedal movement in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal slowly
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the supply and signal wire to the pedal sensor have no open circuit or short to ground or supply voltage
- 5Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 6Replace the pedal sensor only if the fault remains and nothing else is found
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- The car has poor performance and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
