What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the PWM signal with the analogue signal from the pedal, and the code is set when the difference between the two becomes too great. The fault may lie in the connectors, the ground or signal wire, or the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, contact resistance or oxidation at the pedal sensor connections
- Open circuit in the ground wire
- Fault in the pedal sensor PWM signal
- Fault in the pedal sensor analogue signal
- Open circuit in the signal ground wire
- Damaged accelerator pedal sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for loose contacts, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the ground lead to the pedal sensor has no open circuit
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read both pedal signals in live data while the pedal is pressed and released; they should follow each other
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the pedal sensor has no open circuit
- 6Replace the pedal sensor first only if the other checks show nothing
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- The car has poor performance and lacks power, especially when pulling away
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output is limited
