What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors two pedal signals, PWM and analogue. The code is set when the PWM signal is faulty or the difference between the two signals is too great. The fault may lie in the pedal sensor, its connectors, the ground wire or the CAN network. The code can also follow from another fault code stored in the control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections between the pedal sensor and the engine control module
- Damaged accelerator pedal sensor
- Fault in the CAN communication between the engine control module and CEM
- Fault in the pedal sensor PWM signal
- Open circuit in the ground lead
- The fault may be caused by another fault code stored in the control module
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool, read the pedal value in live data while the pedal is pressed and released; the value should follow the movement
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the ground lead to the pedal sensor has no open circuit
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN wires for open circuit and short circuit
- 6If these checks show no other fault and the fault remains, the pedal sensor may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice4
- Poor response from the accelerator pedal
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- Accelerator pedal ignored when braking
What the fault can affect3
- The accelerator pedal stops working while the brake pedal is pressed
- Engine torque and output may be limited
- The speed limiter is not available
