What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the analogue pedal signal, which travels via the central electronic module (CEM) over CAN, with the PWM signal that runs directly to the ECM. The code is set when the two signals do not follow each other. The fault may lie in the pedal sensor, its connectors or CEM.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Fault in the CAN communication between the engine control module and the central electronic module (CEM)
- Fault in the pedal sensor PWM signal
- Fault in the analogue pedal sensor signal
- Damaged accelerator pedal sensor
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since the pedal signal passes through CEM
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read both pedal signals in live data while the pedal is pressed and released; they should follow each other
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Use a multimeter to check the supply and ground wires to the pedal sensor for open circuit
- 6If the checks reveal nothing and the fault persists, the pedal sensor can be swapped
Symptoms you may notice2
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- The car has poor performance and lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque and output may be limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
