What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the PWM and analogue pedal signals and compares them with the calculated pedal position. The code is set when the difference between the PWM and analogue signals becomes too great, or when the position from one of the sensors does not match the calculated position. The fault may lie in the sensor, its connectors, the ground wire or the CAN network.
Possible causes
- Loose or oxidised connections at the pedal sensor
- The ground wire has an open circuit
- Fault in the pedal sensor PWM signal
- Fault in the pedal sensor analogue signal
- Damaged accelerator pedal sensor
- Open circuit in one of the CAN network wires
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for loose contacts, contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the ground lead to the pedal sensor has no open circuit
- 4Start the engine; with a diagnostic tool you can read the pedal value in live data while the pedal is pressed and released, and check that the signals follow each other
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the supply to the pedal sensor has no open circuit
- 6Replace the pedal sensor first if the other checks show nothing and the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- The car has poor performance and lacks power, especially when pulling away
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, both during acceleration and at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output may be limited
