What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the PWM signal with the analogue signal from the pedal sensor, and the code is set when the difference between them becomes too great. The fault may lie in the pedal sensor, its connectors, the ground wire or the wires of the CAN network.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in the pedal sensor connections
- Open circuit in the ground wire or the signal ground wire
- Fault in the pedal sensor PWM signal
- Fault in the pedal sensor analogue signal
- Damaged accelerator pedal sensor
- Open or short circuit between the CAN network wires
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Check the connectors at the pedal sensor and the engine control module for contact resistance and oxidation, and make sure none is loose
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the ground lead to the pedal sensor has no open circuit
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the pedal value in live data while the pedal is pressed and released, and check that it follows the movement
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN network wires for open circuit and short circuit
- 6Replace the pedal sensor first only if the other checks show no other fault
Symptoms you may notice3
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
- The car lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration or deceleration
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output may be limited
