What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the intercooler bypass valve, meaning the control valve at the inlet, and how it works. The code is set when the valve binds or sticks while it is being driven to open or close. The fault may lie in the signal wire or in the valve itself.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- The control valve at the inlet has jammed
- Damaged control valve at the inlet
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Road test the car and see whether the fault appears when the throttle input changes
- 3With a diagnostic tool, activate the control valve at the inlet and listen and look for free movement without sticking
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the valve is not short-circuited to ground
- 5If the valve binds or sticks, have a workshop replace it
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
