What does this fault code mean?
The signal from speed sensor B has a fault that the transmission control module (TCM) detects. The TCM then sends an error message to the engine control module (ECM) over the CAN network, and the code is stored there. This is a follow-on code: the fault starts in TCM, and the code can only be erased once that fault is fixed.
Possible causes
- Fault in the speed signal in the transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM) first, since the root fault is there
- 2Fix the fault in TCM and then erase the code in the engine control module, as it cannot be erased until the root fault is fixed
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4Check the connectors at the engine control module and the transmission control module for loose connections and oxidation
- 5With a diagnostic tool, read the speed value in live data during a test drive and check that it matches the speedometer
- 6After erasing, road test the car to see whether the cruise control works and whether the code comes back
