What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the main speed value from brake control (BCM) against the reference from transmission control (TCM). The code is set when the main value strays too far from the reference. The fault lies in the signal that TCM sends, and the code can only be erased once the TCM fault is fixed.
Possible causes
- Faulty speed signal from transmission control (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the transmission control module (TCM) first, since the root fault is there
- 2Fix the fault in TCM and then erase the code in the engine control module
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4With a diagnostic tool, compare the TCM and BCM speed values in live data while the car is rolling
- 5Check the connectors at the engine control module and the transmission control module for loose connections and oxidation
- 6Road test the car after the repair and check that the idle is smooth and that the code does not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- Uneven idle
