What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) sets this code when the main speed signal deviates too much from the reference, which makes one of the two speed readings implausible. The fault may lie in either the transmission or the brake control module. The code cannot be erased until the codes in both modules have been fixed.
Possible causes
- Faulty speed signal from transmission control (TCM)
- Faulty speed signal from brake control (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in both the brake control module (BCM) and the transmission control module (TCM) first, since the fault may lie in either
- 2Fix the faults in BCM and TCM, then erase the code in the engine control module
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4With a diagnostic tool, compare the BCM and TCM speed values in live data while the car is rolling
- 5Do not work on the braking system yourself; have a workshop check the BCM if its codes do not explain the fault
- 6Road test the car after the repair and check that the idle is smooth and that the code does not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- The idle is uneven
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
