What does this fault code mean?
The deviation between the speed signals from BCM and TCM is what makes the engine control module store the code. It is a follow-on code from one of the modules, and it cannot be erased until the faults in them are fixed.
Possible causes
- Incorrect speed signal sent to the brake control module (BCM)
- Fault in the transmission control module (TCM)
- Damaged brake control module (BCM)
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
- Contact resistance in the CAN connections
- Open circuit in one or both CAN wires
What you can do
- 1Start by reading the codes in CEM and any other affected modules, since the code may have been set in several modules
- 2Fix the faults in the modules that have codes, then erase the code in the engine control module
- 3Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4Check the connectors at the CAN connections for loose contacts and oxidation
- 5Do not replace CEM because of a CAN fault; replace it only if troubleshooting shows an internal fault
- 6Do not work on the braking system yourself; have a workshop check the BCM and the speed signals if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice4
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Cruise control does not engage
- A message appears in the display
- Yellow warning symbol and a message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control switches off
