What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) measures atmospheric pressure with a sensor built into the module. The code is set when the signal from that sensor is incorrect or missing, and only when the fault has lasted across two or more consecutive driving cycles. It can be set together with other fault codes, which should be dealt with first.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module
- The code may be a follow-on fault from an incorrect air pressure sensor in the intake manifold
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module first, and fix any codes for the intake air pressure sensor before this one
- 2Check that the fuses are intact; their locations are in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the atmospheric pressure in live data and check that the value is reasonable
- 4Have a workshop check the air pressure sensor in the intake manifold, since it may be the cause
- 5Have a workshop decide whether the engine control module is damaged if the fault remains after these checks
Symptoms you may notice3
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- The car has poor performance and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration or deceleration
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses an atmospheric pressure value calculated from the air pressure in the intake manifold
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
