What does this fault code mean?
The module compares the reading from its own built-in air pressure sensor with the pressure in the intake manifold. The code is set when an internal fault makes that sensor's signal wrong, or when the gap between the sensors becomes too large. Because the fault can lie in several parts, it is worth reading other codes before replacing anything.
Possible causes
- Internal fault inside the module, which may also show up as the codes ECM-P222800 or ECM-P222900
- Faulty manifold pressure sensor (MAP)
- Faulty air pressure sensor built into the module
What you can do
- 1Read the code, note it and clear it. Then drive the car and read again to see whether it returns
- 2First check whether other air pressure codes are stored, both for the internal sensor and the intake manifold sensor. Repair those first
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the intake manifold pressure and the module's air pressure in live data with the ignition on. The values should be close
- 4Check the wiring and connectors to the intake manifold sensor for loose or corroded contacts, chafing and breaks, and test for shorts with a multimeter
- 5If the difference remains with a working intake sensor, the module's internal sensor is damaged. It cannot be replaced alone, so have a workshop replace the module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (Check engine lamp) lit
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when starting off
- The car hesitates, surges or runs roughly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The module uses the intake manifold sensor instead if it is fault-free, otherwise a fixed fallback value for normal sea-level air pressure
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
