What does this fault code mean?
The module reads the front heated oxygen sensor, which reports on the fuel and air mixture. The code is set when the module detects that the signal from the sensor is faulty. The fault may lie in the wiring, the connections or the sensor.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Short to earth on the signal wire
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged oxygen sensor
- Codes ECM-P223800 or ECM-P223900 stored at the same time, relating to a low or high signal
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the sensor connections for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break and no short to earth or supply voltage
- 4If the wiring is in order, try a new oxygen sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment diagnose further
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
