What does this fault code mean?
The module registers that the pump current to the front heated oxygen sensor has stopped and that the sensor signal has therefore been set to a default value. Although the code is named as a short to earth, it applies to the pump current. The fault lies in the connections, the pump current wire or the sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the terminals
- Open circuit in the pump current wire
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and drive the car. Then read again to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the oxygen sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation. Do not use rust-dissolving spray or grease in the connector
- 3Use a multimeter on the pump current wire to check for a break. If possible, measure from the back of the contacts so they are not damaged
- 4If the wiring is in order, try a new oxygen sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment diagnose further
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
