What does this fault code mean?
The module reads the front heated oxygen sensor, which reports on the fuel and air mixture. The code is set when the module finds that the signal from the sensor is faulty, or when the pump current has stopped, which makes the sensor reading fall back to a standard level. The code can therefore apply to either case.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Short to earth on the signal wire
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the pump current wire
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and drive the car. Then read again to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the oxygen sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation. Do not use rust-dissolving spray or grease on it
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If the wiring is in order, try a new oxygen sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop diagnose further. If the module has registered an internal fault, it is remedied by replacing the module
Symptoms you may notice1
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
