What does this fault code mean?
The module reads the front heated oxygen sensor, which reports on the fuel and air mixture. The code is set when the signal is faulty, and also when an open circuit is registered in the signal wire to the part of the sensor that measures oxygen content in the exhaust.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Short to earth on the signal wire
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation on the signal wire or in the connections
- Earth wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
What you can do
- 1Clear the code, drive the car and read again to see whether it returns
- 2Check the oxygen sensor connections for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation. Do not use rust-dissolving spray or grease in the connector
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to earth or supply voltage
- 4If the wiring is in order, try a new oxygen sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment diagnose further
