What does this fault code mean?
The module reads the front heated oxygen sensor, which reports on the fuel and air mixture. The code is set when the signal from the sensor is faulty, here too low.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Earth wire shorted to earth
- Damaged oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the code, drive the car and read again to see whether it returns
- 2Check the sensor connections for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation. Do not use rust-dissolving spray or grease in the connector
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to earth, and check the earth wire against the body
- 4If the wiring is in order, try a new oxygen sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop diagnose further
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
