What does this fault code mean?
The module reads the front heated oxygen sensor, which reports on the fuel and air mixture. The code is set when the sensor signal earth is judged faulty, here too low.
Possible causes
- Earth lead shorted to supply voltage
- Earth lead shorted to earth
- Open circuit in the earth lead
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and drive the car. Then read again to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the sensor connections for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the earth lead is not shorted to earth
- 4If the wiring is in order, try a new oxygen sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment diagnose further
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
