What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls boost pressure with a turbo control valve, and the two turbochargers work together. The code is set when boost pressure is above the permitted limit while driving with varying throttle, and it applies to both turbochargers.
Possible causes
- Damaged turbo control valve
- Hoses between the turbo control valve, the wastegate valve and its pressure servo are loose, blocked or damaged
- Hoses between the bypass valve pressure servo and the turbo control valve are loose or blocked or damaged
- Sticking wastegate or bypass valve
- Damaged pressure servo for the wastegate or bypass valve
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the turbo control valve and listen for it to click
- 2Check the hoses to the wastegate valve pressure servo: that they are secure and not blocked or damaged
- 3Check that the hose to the bypass valve pressure servo is secure and not blocked
- 4Check that the wastegate valve moves freely and is not sticking
- 5A damaged turbo control valve can be hard to detect when activated, so have a workshop carry out the full diagnosis
Symptoms you may notice2
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when starting off
- The car hesitates, surges or runs roughly during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed, sometimes or all the time
