What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously compares the signal from the boost pressure sensor with a calculated value. The code is set when boost pressure rises even though the module is not requesting any torque.
Possible causes
- Too high a proportion of diesel in the engine oil
- Contaminated engine oil or incorrect oil level
- Knock-on fault from a fault in the injectors or fuel system, which should be diagnosed first
- The vacuum line feeding the wastegate valve is disconnected
- The turbo control valve (wastegate) has stuck in the closed position
- Boost pressure becomes too high because the wastegate valve does not open quickly enough
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level and whether the oil is contaminated or smells clearly of diesel
- 2Check that the vacuum line to the wastegate valve is connected
- 3Read and clear the code, and check whether any other code for injectors or the fuel system is stored. That one should be diagnosed first
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the turbo control valve and check that it moves and has not stuck in the closed position
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop diagnose further
Symptoms you may notice5
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The engine stalls, sometimes or all the time
- The car hesitates, surges or runs roughly during acceleration
- Unusual noise while driving
What the fault can affect3
- The engine is switched off
- Engine torque is limited
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control and the burning of soot particles do not take place
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
