Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The module keeps watch on the brake light switch. The code is set when readings from the brake pedal sensor and the brake light switch contradict each other.
Possible causes
- Loose connections or contact resistance and oxidation in the terminals
- Damaged brake light switch
- Damaged brake pedal position sensor
- Loose contact or contact resistance in the accelerator pedal switch
- Wiring is shorted to earth or supply voltage
- Open circuit in the cable to the accelerator pedal switch
What you can do
- 1Clear the code, drive the car in normal driving and read again to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal are secure and not corroded
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the accelerator pedal switch and the brake light switch have no break and are not shorted to earth or supply voltage
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the brake pedal sensor and the brake light switch
- 5Do not drive longer than necessary with the fault active, as the engine control then cannot rely on the pedal signals
Symptoms you may notice1
