What does this fault code mean?
The signal to ignition coil 4 is too high according to the engine control module (ECM), so the code is set. This means the signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage. The code gives no more specific fault type and applies only to ignition coil 4.
Possible causes
- The signal wire to ignition coil 4 is short-circuited to supply voltage
- The ignition coil is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the instruction manual
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and run the engine for a while. If it returns, the fault is still present
- 3Follow the cable to ignition coil 4 and look for places where the insulation is chafed or where it may have contact with supply voltage
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to ignition coil 4 has no contact with supply voltage
- 5Check the connector at ignition coil 4 for loose contacts and corrosion
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
- Not all cylinders are firing properly
