What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal to ignition coil 4 and sets the code when it is too high. This is a short circuit to supply voltage, meaning the signal wire has come into contact with battery voltage. The fault is electrical and applies only to ignition coil 4.
Possible causes
- The signal wire to ignition coil 4 is short-circuited to supply voltage
- The ignition coil is damaged
What you can do
- 1The fuses should be intact; their locations are shown in the car's owner's manual
- 2Read and note the code, clear it and drive to see whether it returns
- 3Inspect the wiring to ignition coil 4 for chafing, pinching and loose contacts
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wire to ignition coil 4 has no contact with supply voltage
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the ignition coil and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine warning lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
- The car runs poorly and lacks power
