What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the pump in the leak diagnostic unit of the evaporative emission system (EVAP). When the control module receives no signal from the pump, the code is set and the leak diagnostic is switched off. The code is general and does not specify a fault type.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections to the leak diagnostic unit
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the pump
- Open circuit in the power wire to the pump
- Damaged pump in the leak diagnostic unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the car's owner's manual
- 2Check the connector to the leak diagnostic unit for loose contacts and signs of oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the leak diagnostic unit have no open circuit
- 4Read and clear the code, then check whether it returns
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pump in the leak diagnostic unit
