What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) drives the leakage diagnosis pump and checks the drive signal to it. The code is set when the control module finds a fault on that signal, and here the signal is too low. The leakage diagnosis is then interrupted.
Possible causes
- The signal wire to the leakage diagnosis pump is short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged leakage diagnosis pump
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the car's owner's manual
- 2Read and clear the code, then check whether it returns
- 3Check the connector to the leak diagnostic unit for loose contacts and oxidation
- 4Follow the signal wire to the leak diagnostic unit and look for chafing and pinching, especially where it may have touched the body
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the leak diagnostic unit has no contact with ground (the body) and no open circuit
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pump and the wiring
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- The engine warning lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The leakage diagnosis is interrupted
