Show models by year and engine (1)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) reads how much current the pump in the leak diagnostic unit draws while the leak test runs. Current should fall as the valve changes from the reference check to pressurising the tank. The code is set when the fall is too fast, too slow or absent.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- A clogged hose linking the unit to the canister
- Damaged leak diagnostic unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the car's owner's manual
- 2Check that the hose linking the unit to the canister is not clogged, kinked or pinched
- 3Look at the hoses and connections on the leak diagnostic unit, canister, EVAP valve and filler pipe for damage and loose or incorrect fitting
- 4Check the connector to the leak diagnostic unit for contact resistance, meaning loose contacts and oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, run the fuel tank leak test and see whether the result points to the leak diagnostic unit
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the leak diagnostic unit needs replacing

- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
What the fault can affect1
