What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) reads how much current the pump in the leak diagnostic unit draws while the leak test runs. The code is set when the power consumption rises above a certain value during the reference phase, that is, at the start of the test.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Blocked filter in the leak diagnostic unit
- A clogged hose linking the filter to the leak diagnostic unit
- Damaged leak diagnostic unit
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact; their locations are shown in the car's owner's manual
- 2Check that the filter in the leak diagnostic unit and the hose between the filter and the unit are not blocked or kinked
- 3Check the connector to the leak diagnostic unit for loose contacts and signs of oxidation
- 4Look at the hoses and connections on the leak diagnostic unit, canister and filler pipe for damage and loose fitting
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, run the fuel tank leak test and see whether the result points to the leak diagnostic unit
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment decide whether the leak diagnostic unit needs replacing
