What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named fuel cap sensor/switch circuit, it applies when the engine control module (ECM) has not received confirmation from the central electronic module (CEM) that the request to lock the fuel flap was sent to the locking relay. The code is set when the car has been driven for a while without that confirmation arriving.
Possible causes
- Loose connections or contact resistance in the connections to the CAN network
- Damaged wiring in the CAN network
- Disturbances on the CAN signal wires
- Another control module in the HS-CAN network is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and in the other control modules and deal with them first
- 2Check that the connectors in the CAN network are firmly seated and free from corrosion, and look for chafed wires
- 3Gently move the wires and pull lightly on the connectors during the check to find where the fault is
- 4Do not clear this code until the codes in the central electronic module and other affected control modules have been remedied and cleared
- 5If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment measure the CAN network and decide which control module is disturbing the communication
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
