What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) uses a model to calculate how much soot is in the particle filter, and at the same time checks the differential pressure before and after the filter. The code is set when the calculated soot quantity is too high, which means the particle filter is clogged.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the intake system
- The particle filter is full of soot
- Damaged connection hose or pipe to the differential pressure sensor
- Damaged differential pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1First check whether other fault codes are stored in the control module and deal with them, since this code can be caused by faults in other engine functions
- 2Check that the engine intake system does not leak air and is not damaged
- 3Check that the hoses and pipes to the differential pressure sensor are not damaged or leaking
- 4Inspect the connectors to the differential pressure sensor and the control module for contact resistance, oxidation and loose connections, and use a multimeter to check that the wires have no open circuit
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the differential pressure in live data; if it shows no value or an invalid one, the sensor or the hoses are the likely cause
- 6Have a workshop burn off the soot in the particle filter; if this cannot be done outdoors or does not work, the filter needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine performs poorly
- A message appears in the information display
What the fault can affect2
- The car may go into emergency mode (limp home)
- Engine torque is limited
