What does this fault code mean?
The fault applies to bank 1 and means the differential pressure across the particle filter is too low according to the control module. The engine control module (ECM) measures the pressure upstream and downstream of the particle filter and sets the code when the sensor value falls below the permitted level.
Possible causes
- Software fault in the engine control module
- No particle filter fitted
- Clogged or damaged hose or pipe to the pressure sensor
- Hoses to the pressure sensor have been swapped
- Damaged particle filter
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Look at the hoses and pipes to the pressure sensor for damage, swapped connections and blockage; they should be correctly connected and clear
- 2Check that the connectors to the pressure sensor are firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the pressure sensor signal in live data with the engine off and at idle, and compare the two values
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the control module software, since a software fault can cause the code; reload it only if it is damaged
- 5Have a workshop decide whether the particle filter is missing, damaged or needs replacing
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine warning lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
- A warning symbol and a text message appear in the display
- The car runs poorly and lacks power
What the fault can affect3
- Torque is limited
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control is lost
- Burning of soot particles does not take place
