What does this fault code mean?
This fault concerns bank 1. The engine control module (ECM) checks the pressure upstream and downstream of the particle filter and compares the sensor signal with a computed value. The code is set when the signal falls outside a set limit, which can be caused by a filter clogged with soot or by a fault in the sensor or wiring.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at connectors or joints
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground or to supply voltage
- Power supply wire to the pressure sensor short-circuited to ground
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
- Particle filter missing, clogged, damaged or full of soot
- Air leakage in the intake system, or damaged or clogged hoses to the pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Inspect the connections to the pressure sensor and the filter for contact resistance, looseness and oxidation
- 2Check that the hoses and pipes to the pressure sensor are intact, not clogged and not swapped
- 3Check that the intake system does not leak air and is not damaged
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires to the pressure sensor have no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the soot quantity in the particle filter and the sensor value in live data
- 6Have a workshop check the pressure sensor and the particle filter, and decide whether the filter needs cleaning or replacing
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine warning lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
- The car runs poorly and lacks power
- A warning symbol and a text message appear in the display
- The car lacks power even when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates or surges at steady speed
What the fault can affect3
- Engine output, speed and torque are limited
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control is lost
- Burning of soot particles does not take place
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
