What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named pressure sensor A, it applies when the soot in the particle filter is too high. The engine control module (ECM) works out whether the filter is clogged by comparing the measured pressure difference over it with a calculated value, which depends on engine speed and the amount of fuel injected.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Clogged particle filter
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Deal with other fault codes stored in the control module first, especially injector codes, since this code can come from other engine faults
- 2If the particle filter fills quickly or often, check the intake system for leaks and damage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the soot level and the adapted pressure difference in live data
- 4When the soot level is low, normally no action is needed beyond driving on open roads now and then
- 5Have a workshop assess the soot level and decide whether the filter should be burned off outdoors or replaced
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The control module starts burning off soot in the filter
