What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the signal from the particle filter pressure sensor falls outside a set limit and is too low. The engine control module (ECM) measures the pressure upstream and downstream of the filter and checks the signal against a calculated value. The causes concern the wiring and connectors as well as the sensor itself.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Supply wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Inspect the connections and wiring to the pressure sensor for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the pressure sensor is not short-circuited to ground
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply voltage wire to the pressure sensor is not short-circuited to ground and has no open circuit
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the adapted pressure difference across the particle filter in live data
- 5After replacing the pressure sensor, the control module needs its offset value reprogrammed for the new sensor; have a workshop do this with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice4
- The car runs poorly and lacks power, even when pulling away from standstill
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, deceleration or at steady speed
- The engine warning lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
- A warning symbol and a text message appear in the display
What the fault can affect3
- Engine output, speed and torque are limited
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control is lost
- Burning of soot particles does not take place
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
