Volvo models this fault code applies to
This fault code has different meanings depending on model, model year or engine. Select the meaning that applies to your car.
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the particle filter is full of soot, and the engine control module (ECM) measures the pressure upstream and downstream of the filter with the pressure sensor signal. Automatic regeneration while driving can clear the code once the speed has been high enough for a certain time.
Possible causes
- Clogged particle filter
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Deal with other fault codes stored in the control module first, since this code can be caused by faults in other engine functions
- 2Inspect the connector to the pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation, and remedy it if needed
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the pressure sensor value in live data
- 4Drive the car on open roads so the particle filter can burn off soot automatically
- 5Have a workshop burn off the soot if the filter is still full; if the fault remains, the pressure sensor may need replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine warning lamp (Check engine) lights up or behaves abnormally
- The car runs poorly and lacks power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output and speed are limited
