What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named range/performance of the bypass circuit, it applies when the signal to the EGR cooling bypass valve is incorrect. The engine control module (ECM) drives the valve through an internal power stage and sets the code when the signal does not match.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage (code ECM-P245D00)
- Damaged bypass valve (code ECM-P245D00)
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground (code ECM-P245A00)
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors (code ECM-P245B00)
- Open circuit in the signal wire (code ECM-P245B00)
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the bypass valve are firmly seated and free from corrosion
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the bypass valve has no open circuit
- 3Start the engine and read the code to see whether it is still present
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the bypass valve and how the control module drives it
