What does this fault code mean?
The ECM tracks how much soot is in the diesel particulate filter. The code is stored as a first level when the soot level has exceeded a certain limit and the pressure difference across the filter is too great. If the soot level keeps rising, ECM-P24A400 is also stored.
Possible causes
- Clogged particle filter with too much soot in it
- Soot combustion insufficient or blocked
- Increased soot generation by the engine, for example from an EGR fault or air leakage in the intake
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Damaged pressure sensor for the particle filter
- The vehicle has been driven a lot in urban traffic
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the amount of soot in the particle filter to see how much soot it holds
- 2Drive the car a longer distance on country roads, preferably with cruise control, so that the engine control module can start soot combustion during normal driving
- 3If the particle filter fills quickly or often, look for leaks and damage in the intake system, for example in hoses and pipes
- 4Check that the connector at the particle filter pressure sensor is secure and free from oxidation
- 5If ECM-P24A400 is also stored, have a workshop diagnose that code
Symptoms you may notice2
- The Check engine lamp may come on or behave abnormally
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- EGR control does not take place
- Soot combustion does not take place
