What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named as a bus or message fault, it is set when the filter is completely clogged with soot. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the filter with a calculation model and the pressure difference before and after it. Several service regenerations in a row may be needed, and the car may go into limp-home mode with limited torque.
Possible causes
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Filter completely clogged with soot
- Damaged connection hose or pipe to the particle filter pressure sensor
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Fault-trace any stored codes for the air system, fuel system or differential pressure sensor first, then return to this check
- 2Look for air leaks in the intake system and loose charge-air pipes
- 3Check the hoses and pipes to the differential pressure sensor for damage and leaks
- 4Read the soot amount with a diagnostic tool only after air leaks and hoses are checked, since faults there can give a wrong value
- 5Have a workshop regenerate the particle filter outdoors. If that is not possible, the filter must be replaced
