ECM-P246B00 - Vehicle Conditions Incorrect for Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code shows that the car has for some time been driven in a way, for example slowly or mostly in city traffic, that has not allowed a successful regeneration of the particle filter. It is an early stage of the filter becoming blocked. The code is stored when the particle filter is blocked or clogged.
Possible causes
- The car has been driven a lot in urban environments
- Damaged particle filter pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1If other codes are stored in the engine control module, fault-trace them first, since they can cause the same symptoms
- 2Remedy the connector at the particle filter pressure sensor if it is loose or oxidised, since contact resistance gives a wrong signal
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the particle filter pressure sensor value in live data and see whether it stays at the same level while the engine runs
- 4Avoid slow driving and city driving for a while and drive on country roads so the filter can regenerate
- 5Have a workshop regenerate the particle filter if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- The Check engine lamp may come on or behave abnormally
- The car may feel weak or lack power
What the fault can affect1
- Engine output and speed are limited
