What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named exhaust gas temperature, it concerns the reading from the temperature sensor in the catalytic converter. The ECM keeps checking that this reading stays inside the range the sensor may work in. The code is stored when the value falls outside that range, and a software fault in the engine control module is a possible cause.

What you can do
- 1Read the code, note it and clear it. Road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the catalytic converter temperature sensor in live data and see that the value changes as the engine warms up
- 3Check that no other codes are stored in the engine control module; if there are, fault-trace them first
- 4If the code returns, have a workshop check the engine control module software, since the fault may be a software fault
